Health, Safety & Security
We prioritize safety through active supervision, tracking children while they are present at the center, and maintaining required ratios. Families also use a secure electronic sign-in/out system, and access to the building is controlled—families receive instructions on secure entry before their child’s first day. The center also uses video surveillance in public areas for security.
Parents are kept informed through a secure parent communication app called “Procare.” This app provides everyday photos of your little one, notifications about your child’s care and activities, and a monthly newsletter and calendar events, ensuring parents are always connected and informed about their child's day.
Yes. We follow North Carolina childcare licensing requirements and policies, including immunization requirements and state-mandated safety procedures.
The Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE) conducts at least one unannounced licensing visit per year to ensure compliance with state childcare rules and regulations. In addition, local environmental health departments typically conduct sanitation inspections at least twice per year (biannually) to ensure cleanliness, food safety, diapering, play areas, and other health standards are maintained. Fire safety inspections are conducted annually to ensure the safety of the facility and all children in care.
Families are welcome to ask the Director for available licensing and compliance information.
We commit to strong supervision practices, qualified staff standards, a research-based curriculum, safe sleep practices, structured sanitation routines, and family partnership systems—while intentionally building an intergenerational program that supports children’s development and strengthens the community.
Family Envolvement & Community
We strongly value family partnerships. Families can participate through daily communication, conferences, volunteering for events or classroom activities and joining the Parent Advisory Group.
Yes. Families may be invited to seasonal celebrations, family nights, learning showcases, and other special events. Birthday celebrations are welcome with teacher coordination (no homemade snacks).
We focus on consistent communication, an open-door approach (with coordination to limit disruption), conferences, and ongoing collaboration—because children thrive when families and educators work together.
We welcome families without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or family structure. We celebrate each family’s unique culture and encourage families to share traditions and experiences with the classroom community.
Behavior, Social-Emotional Support & Guidence
We use positive guidance strategies—modeling respectful behavior, clear expectations, choices, redirection, and reinforcing desired behavior. Physical punishment, humiliation, threats, or any form of corporal punishment is strictly prohibited. If a child needs extra support, we can develop an individual behavior plan in collaboration with families and specialists when appropriate.
Teachers intentionally support social-emotional growth through daily routines, peer interactions, guided play, and consistent classroom expectations. Our approach is focused on helping children build self-regulation, empathy, and positive relationships.
Family communication is a key part of our program. We provide daily communication and welcome conversations at drop-off and pick-up. We also have the parent portal that can use the chat feature with your child’s teacher and/or the director. If concerns arise, we partner with families to create supportive strategies and, when needed, individualized plans.
Our approach is rooted in teaching children what to do, not just what not to do—through redirection, problem-solving support, consistent routines, and age-appropriate expectations in a nurturing environment.
About the Center for Thriving Children
The Center focuses on fostering social and emotional development through its proprietary curriculum, which includes activities that promote empathy, self-regulation, and social skills. The center's environment encourages positive interactions, problem-solving, and emotional expression, helping children build strong, healthy relationships.
We recognize and support each child’s unique strengths, interests, and learning style through ongoing observation and assessment within the Creative Curriculum®. For children who need additional support (medical, dietary, developmental, toileting, sleep, or behavioral), we create an individualized written childcare plan in partnership with families and, when needed, the child’s health care provider.
We know transitions can be hard for both children and parents. Families are welcome to meet the teacher and observe the classroom before the first day. When children move up to a new classroom, we support them with classroom visits, teacher-to-teacher communication, and families are welcome to meet the new teaching team. Each family also receives a Welcome Packet with every classroom transition.
Yes, the Center offers inclusive programs designed to support children with special needs or learning differences. The staff collaborates with families and specialists to create individualized learning plans that cater to each child's unique needs and promote their growth and development. Contact us for more information.
Each classroom is equipped with a handheld device.
Technology is seamlessly integrated into the curriculum through digital learning tools. These resources are used to enhance learning, engage children in interactive lessons, and introduce them to real-world, hands-on learning opportunities, and 21st Century skills. We are proud to use the nationally-recognized, award-winning Creative Curriculum® in our early learning classrooms. Creative Curriculum® is one of the few curricula approved by every State Department of Education in the country!
We use the Creative Curriculum®, a research-based, developmentally appropriate framework for children from infancy through early childhood. It supports the whole child—social-emotional, cognitive, language, and physical development—through hands-on learning, play, and meaningful experiences. Teachers observe children’s progress and tailor activities to meet individual needs through small groups and one-on-one support when needed. We have many reasons, starting with our approach to early childhood education that focuses on curriculum that develops the "whole child.”
This means that in addition to meeting educational standards, our program emphasizes the development of social skills, emotional intelligence, and problem-solving abilities.
We have many reasons, starting with our approach to early childhood education that focuses on curriculum that develops the "whole child.”
This means that in addition to meeting educational standards, our program emphasizes the development of social skills, emotional intelligence, and problem-solving abilities.
Each classroom follows a daily schedule that includes a balanced mix of child choice, teacher-guided learning, meals, outdoor play, and rest time. Schedules are posted on the parent board for easy reference. While routines stay consistent to help children feel secure, teachers may adjust activities and transitions to meet children’s needs, interests, and the day’s circumstances.
Our preschool learning experiences are guided by the Creative Curriculum® and focus on building skills across developmental areas—especially language, social-emotional growth, independence, and problem-solving—through play, projects, and daily routines that help children gain confidence and readiness for their next step.

Curriculum & Learning
We use the Creative Curriculum®, a research-based curriculum that supports learning through play, project-based exploration, and developmentally appropriate teaching from infancy through early childhood.
Children learn foundational skills through play-based learning centers (such as reading, writing, science, sensory, and math), teacher-guided activities, and hands-on experiences that build language, thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Outdoor play is scheduled daily, weather permitting. Children go outside at least twice a day—typically totaling 60–90 minutes for toddlers and 90–120 minutes for ages 3+, depending on weather and safety conditions.
Yes. Children engage in creative and hands-on learning through classroom experiences such as art, storytelling, dramatic play, and interactive learning centers as part of the Creative Curriculum® approach.
Teachers observe children and tailor learning experiences to match individual strengths and needs. The curriculum supports small-group and one-on-one learning when appropriate, and individualized plans are created for children who need additional support.
Meals, Snacks & Daily Care
Yes. Children receive breakfast and lunch catered by Brookridge Retirement Facility, plus afternoon and late-afternoon snacks. Weekly menus are posted for families to review.
We are a tree-nut and peanut-free center. If a child has food allergies or dietary needs, we partner with families to create a plan and make reasonable accommodations. Outside food is not permitted unless we cannot meet the child’s needs, and physician documentation may be required.
Families should send labeled supplies your child needs for the full day (as applicable): diapers/pull-ups, wipes, bottles with caps (labeled with name and date), a complete change of clothing, and weather-appropriate outdoor items. Items should be labeled with your child’s first and last name. We ask families not to send toys from home (comfort items for nap are okay).
Teachers support potty training respectfully and at each child’s pace, while maintaining strong hygiene and sanitation practices. We communicate with families regularly about progress, needed supplies, and any concerns. Children with specific needs may have an individualized care plan.
Infants through preschoolers have a daily rest/nap time. The center provides some bedding, and children over 12 months may bring a light blanket. For infants (12 months and under), we follow safe sleep practices: infants are placed on their backs in a crib with no loose items (except a fitted sheet and pacifier); sleep sacks may be used if provided by families.
Staff & Supervision
Lead teachers are expected to have North Carolina Early Childhood Credentials (NCECC) and an associate’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or a related field, along with at least two years of experience. Assistant teachers include staff with NCECC credentials or equivalent (or Level 1+ with additional coursework). Staff also participate in ongoing training per state requirements.
Yes. All staff are certified in pediatric CPR and First Aid. Infant and toddler teachers also receive training in Infant/Toddler Safe Sleep and SIDS.
Staff complete ongoing training in accordance with state regulations to support quality care, safety, and best practices.
Children are supported by a consistent classroom team whenever possible. During transitions, teachers communicate important information to the next classroom team to support continuity of care.
Children are always supervised and we always maintain appropriate staffing and ratios. If staffing adjustments are needed, we ensure supervision and coverage remain in place to protect children’s safety and support classroom routines.
